I hope the year is unfolding well for all of you, and you are staying warm and dry and happy. We have been very busy. Last week, we premiered our short film, SHADE, at the Sedona International Film Festival in Arizona. We had a blast at this smaller, artsy and classy festival, run by some of the nicest people we've met. They honored our film with the Director's Choice Award for Outstanding Directing and Acting. This award was a huge boost for us, and will hopefully help our "little film that could" get into even more festivals. We'll be showing it at some great ones in April: The Sonoma Valley Film Festival and the Nashville Film Festival. In case you haven't heard, SHADE was inspired by a story I saw on CNN about kids who live with a rare affliction called Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a genetic defect that prevents them from going out in the sun. You can read more about it on our website, www.shadeshort.com.In other news, my prime time directing debut airs tomorrow night, February 28th, on ABC, at 9/8 central. ABC has been playing around with our time slot (which I think is a good thing, because we weren't doing as well with the numbers at 8 o'clock), and so you may have been a little confused lately. Even my parents are having a hard time keeping the times straight. I love this episode (not just cuz I directed it). Jim Belushi and Julie Newmar settle their real-life feud in this self-deprecating and funny romp. We got to be very tongue-in-cheek with the Batman references, and there's a big stunt and a big dog, and Catwoman. What more could you want? I had a terrific time directing this episode. I hope you enjoy it! Here's what I'm reading: The Year of Magical Thinking, by Joan Didion. Fascinating and very sad. A slow but satisfying read. Marley and Me, by John Grogan. Great for dog lovers. Made me cry and laugh. Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. My next book. I've heard great things about it and I can't wait. New Favorite Movie: The Sisters, coming out in April. I met these filmmakers at the festival and thought they were wonderful and intelligent people. The film stars Maria Bello (phenomenal) and Mary Stuart Masterson and Chris O'Donnell and Eric McCormack, among others. It's inspired by Chekov's Three Sisters. It's great for you theater buffs out there. New Favorite Activity: Bikram Yoga. Holy Moly. I can't move, but it's that good kinda pain. Some people absolutely hate it, so be careful. www.bikramyoga.comThanks for reading, you guys. And thanks, as always, for your continued support. It means the world to me. Thanks, also, for those emails. Best, ©2003 KimberlyWilliams-Paisley.com |
